About Nerkin Karmiraghbyur
NK, one of the oldest settlements in the region, is located 192km from Yerevan and less than 300meters from the border with Azerbaijan. Nerkin Karmiraghbyur, with a currently population of under 1000, was one of the worst hit villages during the Karabakh war, with over 200 homes destroyed. Most of the current male population are enlisted in the armed forces protecting their borders of their village.
The road leading to the village from Berd is at times impassable and a significant proportion of the communal lands are in the Azeri firing line as are most of the homes in the village. Nerkin Karmrakhbyur has a school, a kindergarten and an accomplished football team.
